Publisher Description
Airman Onyx Rhinehart, stationed at Dyes Air Force Base in Texas, has always lived by the values of loyalty, service, and duty. While investigating suspicious activity in the desert, the ground collapses beneath her, plunging her into a buried alien ship the U.S. government officially claims never existed. Injured and alone, she discovers a man suspended in a damaged cryostasis pod.
The man is Damien Blade, a brilliant, powerful figure she recognizes instantly — because he appeared as the main villain in a superhero TV series she watched years ago. When she revives him to save his life, Damien awakes disoriented, furious, and nearly dying. He reveals the impossible truth: he is from another dimension, the show was a distorted broadcast of real events, and thirty-seven years ago the U.S. government captured him upon arrival, stole the energy "siphons" that keep him alive, and buried him alive in the desert.
Onyx is torn between her training and her instincts. As they search the ship, she uncovers documents and evidence proving Damien's claims — as well as proof that high-ranking officials deliberately erased all records of the crash. Before she can decide what to do, military forces arrive, arresting them both and silencing the operation. Damien is taken for experimentation; Onyx is labeled a security threat.
Held in a military hospital, Onyx learns her memory is scheduled to be wiped. Damien, weakened without his siphons, is restrained and experimented on for study. During a failed interrogation, Damien regains a fraction of his power and breaks free long enough to help Onyx escape. Their breakout is violent, chaotic, and narrow — forcing Onyx to confront the truth: her government prefers eliminating witnesses to admitting what they did.
Despite her fear, Onyx chooses to flee with Damien, believing execution or erasure awaits her if she returns. Damien reveals that only one of his siphons was real and that the rest are still hidden by the government. Without them, he will die. With them, he could regain the tremendous dark-energy abilities that once made him infamous.
As they evade military pursuit, Onyx and Damien form a fragile alliance. He needs her knowledge of Earth; she needs his power to stay alive. But the partnership is unstable: Damien's anger toward humanity, his ruthless strategic mind, and his morally gray nature clash with Onyx's principles. Each must decide how far they are willing to go — and whether they can trust the other.
Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to uncover the truth, retrieve the stolen siphons, and expose the conspiracy that cost Damien his freedom and now threatens Onyx's life. But both understand that once Damien regains his full power, the line between ally and enemy may blur beyond recognition.
Conspiracy is the first novel in a planned series exploring identity, loyalty, and the shifting boundaries between hero, villain, and survivor.
