Pearl Springs chief of police Nathan Landry can't believe that his high school sweetheart Alexis (he refuses to call her Alex) is back in town, and he can't help wanting to protect the woman he never stopped loving. But as the danger mounts and the killer closes in, can Nathan come through on the promises he makes to himself to bring a killer to justice before it's too late.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this propulsive series opener from Bradley (Deception), two police officers begin a romance as they track down a serial killer. Alexis Stone is undercover searching for the Queen's Gambit Killer (so-called because each victim has been found holding a white chess pawn in their hand) when she runs into Pearl Springs police chief and former boyfriend Nathan Landry at a bar. Though they haven't been in touch since high school, Nathan maintains deep feelings for Alexis, and later that night, he drives by her house to make sure she safe. Instead, he finds her unconscious on a street corner and learns from a witness that a man attempted to abduct Alexis and then shot her as she tried to escape. Alexis stays with her grandparents while recovering, but soon her grandfather, who is chief of the local police, appoints her as his chief deputy, leading her to work closely with Nathan. As more murders plague the area, they struggle to uncover the killer's identity. Meanwhile, Alexis harnesses her faith to navigate the investigation and her growing feelings for Nathan. Balancing a slow-burning romance with a twisty mystery, this will keep Bradley's fans hooked till the final page.

EXCELLENT ROMANTIC SUSPENSE!
Best-selling author Patricia Bradley has just released the first book in her Pearl River Series, which is exceptional romantic suspense! I have read Bradley’s books, and her writing continues to impress me with each new release. I considered some of her past releases my favorites, but this book may have changed my mind. Bradley has an exceptional plot starring a cunning serial killer who leaves a white pawn and a note with a chess move printed on it, dubbed the Queen’s Gambit Killer. Her two main characters are Alexis and Nathan, who previously had a romantic relationship but had a bad breakup. They find themselves thrown together in an attempt to flush this killer out before any more lives are lost. Can Nathan come through to stop the killer before he gets to Alex? Will they finally be able to share the love they both know exists between them?
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions offered here are entirely my own and without influence.
Another fabulous thriller!
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the Lord will prevail.
Wow! This first book in the Pearl River series is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat, suspicious of almost everyone. What appears to be suicide by cop has morphed into murder with chess moves. It will be up to Alex Stone, chief deputy to the Sheriff and her old friend Nathan Landry, Pearl Springs chief of police, to figure out who is murdering women that bear a scary resemblance to the chief deputy.
Explosions, fire, kidnapping and more - will the good guys ever win? Toss in a possible drug connection and you have a book you will not set aside. Will Alex continue to try to figure things out on her own, or will she finally pray for guidance before stepping out?
An early copy was received through Revell, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
