Publisher Description
Counting the Dead is the story of the ongoing struggle to protect the wilds of northeastern Mozambique. It recounts the devastating effects of elephant poaching and illegal logging on the Quirimbas National Park.
The book should be viewed as a new type of journalistic product: part photo essay, part documentary film, part park guide, and part long-form story.
Customer Reviews
Graphic, Informative, Alarming
This iBook uses a variety of media - photos, essay, interviews, interactive maps and videos - to provide a powerful overview of the elephant poaching problem in Mozambique in particular, and in Africa generally. The problem is put into a larger than usual context by linking the ivory trade with the established black market transportation routes used for the trade in illegally felled hardwood timbers. Cody's excellent journalism provides facts and data as well as key information about the history and geography of Mozambique. I lived in neighboring Malawi for three years but learned plenty of fresh information from this book. Recommended...Thumbs Up.
