Craving Conner

Great read, I read the book in two days and enjoyed every minute.

Slow and rushed at the same time

I want to start by saying I loved Loving Bad and I really liked Surviving Slater, so I figured naturally I would like this one as well.

I’ve come to realize all of this authors books have the exact same major plot - boy and girl meet and they have an instant attracting. Boy is always emotionally unavailable and has never been one to settle down. Girl falls in love, boy treats girl like he loves her, but constantly pushes girl away because of some reason for their past that they “can’t be love”. Rinse, wash, repeat. Every book, and it’s mentioned SOOO many times every book. Feels like you’re running in circles on a hamster wheel. I’m not saying the writing isn’t good, because it kept me engaged, however it’s the plot that had me skimming chapters multiple times to get past the repeated issues between Connor and Riley/Shannon.

Also, there were far too many subplots in this book all occurring at the exact same time - and they were all ignored until the very end so it felt rushed. SPOILER: the plot with Daniel - which appeared to be the only major theme in the beginning - was ignored basically the entire book and I was constantly wondering when he was going to pop back up, but then he got a single line in the last chapter. It was built up so much and the conclusion was SO disappointing. Then there was the issue with slater. Again, summed up at the very end, in like a chapter and then a single line in the final chapter. And then there’s the subplot with Alice which ended up getting the most attention for absolutely no reason??? She just came from left field and became a pivotal character at the end for no reason.

Finally, there was the love story between the two main characters. 3/4 of the book is them constantly beating around the bush and Connor pushing Shannon away and then it’s like BOOM one paragraph in a single chapter towards the end and they’re suddenly perfect and he’s so in love and unafraid of being with her??? There just wasn’t any real character development on his part or in this relationship.

Idk

The story overall is good. It just feels off in some parts. I wish there had been a tad more focus on Connor’s growth and struggles.
