Crossing the Reef

Ki’ani and Tālos leave the Archipelago to start her new job as ambassador to the Okāno nation of Waali’ma. Their first stop is a refugee camp where they plan to help the amphibious Thalassians and Thalassian-human Hybrids pack for their trip home. But what kind of reception can she expect when her own father was the one who displaced them? And what kind of ambassador can she be when everyone (including herself) suspects that her new position is just an excuse to banish her from land?

Ki’ani yearns to advocate for the Hybrids who face discrimination everywhere on Vāni. When hate turns into violence, she must do more than advocate. Unless she harnesses her abilities, her friends will die. Even if she saves them, she might lose herself forever in the vast ocean.
