VERY satisfactory ending to series
I really like this series, especially the characters. I even like the covers (which is rare for me). This last book, like the others, has lots of strong action and significant character development. Eric, Jia and Emma continue to be great heroes and interesting, ethically thoughtful people that I really enjoy reading about. The secondary characters are still great.
A lot of the implications of the earlier books are worked out in a thoroughly satisfactory way. Yes, there is an HEA (well, more than one, if you count non-humans). The snark is still funny. The battles are well-done and exciting. Characters continue to grow (and grow on you) in incremental, realistic ways. The possibility of a sequel is hinted at, mostly because Eric, Jia and Emma are so cool, but it isn’t necessary. No loose ends are left, which I appreciate, and I was left with a definite sense of what life is like “after”, also appreciated. The good guys win. The bad guys go down because of their efforts and that of many other dedicated people. The major development is from battles and raids to full on galactic war.
If you like the rest of the series, or similar space opera, I think you’ll like this one, but do not read this book before reading the rest of the series (yes, it’s totally worth it). Enjoy!
