Publisher Description

Cryptozoologicon is a celebration of the myths, legends, evolution and biology of hidden animals. Always sceptical, but always willing to indulge in speculative fun, Cryptozoologicon aims to provide a new way to approach cryptozoology: as fictional biology.

Excellent

This is an excellent book. I've followed Darren Naish's blog, Tetrapod Zoology for a long time, and this often reads a bit like that, but where it really surprised me was with its humorousness. The format of each chapter in the book is to cover a cryptid, initially going once what it is and what the crypto zoological literature about it says, then usually a sort of rebuttal about why those claims are silly. And the the best part: a hilarious send up, written as if by the truest true believer. I chuckled quite a few times.
I really can't recommend the book enough. The illustrations are beautiful and the speculative zoology portions are fascinating, as they come from such a qualified source. This is a great book and I'm eager to get ahold of volume 2.
