INTRODUCTION The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The reservation is the second largest in the nation and covers 11,000 square miles. It is located in southwestern South Dakota, sandwiched between the Black Hills to the west, the Badlands to the north and the Nebraska state line to the south. (Glover, 2005) Pine Ridge is also one of the poorest places in the United States.
