Betty Wei is a graduate of the Chapin School in New York and Bryn Mawr College. She received a master’s degree in International Relations from New York University and a doctorate in History from the University of Hong Kong. A research historian, Betty Wei is Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong. She also holds honorary appointments as Professor at the Institute of Qing Studies, People’s University in Beijing, and the Department of History at the University of Hong Kong. Her latest publication is Ruan Yuan 1764–1849: The Life and Work of a Major Scholar-Official in China before the Opium War (Hong Kong University Press, 2006).

Elizabeth Li is a ‘change agent’ in the fields of Organization Development and Strategic Management. She worked for over ten years in industry, before becoming a management consultant in 1986. She is bicultural as she was born in Hong Kong, grew up in New York and has lived in London. Li returned to Hong Kong in 1980 where she devoted herself to education and explored the concept of cultural integration. Her vision is to have a community college in Hong Kong that reflects the integration of Western concepts in Hong Kong society
