However, the same could be said about living forever. It was this desire that began the Nosferatu. Matthias Covyre had put his fate into the hands of a fallen angel: the demon, Xaphan. Of course, it was not intentional. The demon had promised to give him immortality, but at a cost that Matthias was not willing to pay. By refusing to drink the blood of his brother, Damian, Matthias gave up his immortality. One must wonder, however, what Xaphan could have gained by bestowing Matthias with such a gift. Perhaps now that Jacob Covyre has accepted it – only by drinking his brother’s blood in order to save both of their lives – the answer will be revealed. On the other hand, who would want to find out the plans of a fallen angel? Xaphan already had a scheme for Jacob’s ancestor, but it was only now fulfilled. What could be so important to him? Although Jacob was not happy with his immortality, he knew that he owed Xaphan a debt. It was the demon who had saved his life, and it was the demon who might be able to take the immortality back from him. He would do almost anything for things to return to the way they were before Leonell decided to believe in the old legend. First, he has to find the Keeper.
