Avoid this book
If I could rate this no stars I gladly would. The opening chapter was manageable but the moment it switches to Alaric I couldn’t go any further. A Grey Knight, let alone any Space Marine having dialogue where they are written to sound like your average every day Guardsmen is bad enough, referring to the dimensions of the chaos forge world as ‘roughly the size of Earth’ and not Terra or Holy Terra or even some techno babble description is worse, and then the icing on the cake is having the villain Archmagos who is described as being almost purely bionic having the most non-Mechanicus speaking habit is so jarring I could not get past the initial meeting with Alaric and the Inquisitor.
This is just badly written and I can’t even stomach researching if this is Ben Counter’s practice run on 40K writing because I KNOW he’s done better, heck the Soul Drinkers Omnibus was pretty decent and had none of the poorly written dialogue that is so out of place with this book. What a waste of $11.99
