The book is one of the most important works of Dickens. The novel is considered to be a semi-autobiographical novel because of the similarities between David Copperfield’s life and the author’s experiences and it surpassed all other works of Dickens. David Copperfield is a lost child who grows up under the care of his mother and her maid Peggotty. Soon his mother remarried, and his stepfather, Murdstone, sent David to Peggotty’s brother, who lived by the sea in Yarmouth, before they married. When David came home, his stepfather often beat him and deprived him of his mother’s care and affection. After his mother died, his stepfather immediately sent David to work as a child laborer when he was not yet ten. At last he found his aunt Miss Bessie.
