 It's not a midlife crisis when you're a thirty-one-year-old, newly divorced dad with two teenagers who've never even been camping. Change was necessary, for all of them, and a summer vacation in the idyllic small town in the heart of the Cascade Mountains was exactly what they needed. Fresh air, fresh start, and fresh running shoes, Reed Whitney was making the most of the summer in the condo in the heart of Foothills, Washington.

After giving up his football dreams years ago, spending some time in Colorado as an adventure tour guide, Evan came home to Foothills to be with his mom in her final days, and pitch in at the family pub. Now, at a standstill, working a lifeless job, dating a pro quarterback in a miserably unhealthy relationship, his family all moving on and living their lives, Evan needed a dream of his own. First day, within the first ten minutes of opening his mountain sporting goods shop, it all clicked into place.

But there was no chance of something this good lasting.
