On June 5th 2012, new European rules governing the use of "cookies" came into force in the Netherlands. They are now incorporated into Dutch law.
The rules form part of the Dutch Telecommunications Act. This has been adjusted to meet new EU-wide requirements as defined in the so called "ePrivacy Directive". This mandates that all marketers and website owners operating in any EU country must obtain consent from European users before implementing cookies or other technologies to capture online visitor information.
