Dead Lanes

Tade Zebo and his misfit synthetic crew are seventy-two hours away from seeing their battered salvage tug, the Rust-Jack, cut up for scrap by a ruthless syndicate creditor. Desperate for a lifeline, they gamble their last drops of fuel to pry open a sealed vault on a derelict naval courier adrift in a starship graveyard. Inside waits no bullion or platinum, only an enigmatic alien urn and a terrifying message: Please do not leave me here.

The relic houses Vaelen, an ancient intelligence torn from its socket by the ruling Consortium. It carries a revelation that upends human history: the Hyperlanes are not highways left behind for commerce, but high-tension gravitational stays holding shut a cosmic quarantine. For two centuries, every jump has frayed the weave. Now, the Consortium is hours away from firing up Gate Zero—a colossal mega-gate anchored directly to the keystone that keeps an eldritch, star-consuming consensus trapped in the dark. When First Light ignites, the seam will rip open, unmaking human civilization.

Branded as murderous terrorists with a two-million-scrip bounty on their heads, Tade and his crew are hunted across the belt by relentless naval black-ops and cutthroat privateers. Held together by field welds, raw nerve, and sheer defiance, the crew of the Rust-Jack must navigate a gauntlet of awakening sentry nodes and corporate betrayal to pull off a near-impossible suicide run. They are four outlaws and a speaking stone falling silent and cold toward the core systems, racing to crash the ceremony and expose the truth before humanity tears down the only wall keeping the dark at bay.
