**********
For eighteen-year-old Johnny Petrie, the dilapidated farmhouse in Maine meant a way out. When the letter arrived saying he had inherited an estate from a man he'd never heard of before, Johnny knew he could finally escape the hell of living with his religious zealot mother and drunken father. He didn't realize that the hell he was moving into would be far, far worse.
The previous owner of the estate was Benjamin Conroy, a man obsessed with securing eternal life for himself and his family--even if he had to kill them to do it. Conroy's ultimate ritual, a perverse ceremony of blood and butchery, went hideously wrong, denying him the immortality he sought, leaving him and his family dead. But now that Johnny has arrived at the house, Conroy's spirit will have a second chance....

One of the most horrifying stories I’ve ever read!
Dead Souls is one of only two books that I’ve read by Michael Laimo, but it absolutely establishes him as a master of horror in my opinion! Atmosphere, his debut, is pretty scary, but this is horrifying!!! I’ve read lots of books by Stephen King, an author I’ve been a fan of for decades. But King has yet to write anything as extreme and terrifying as this book becomes during its final chapters! A warning to all fright fans who are looking for a really scary supernatural horror novel: You’ll find your worst nightmare waiting in the pages of this bloodcurdling tale!
Incredibly scary!!
Quite possibly the best horror story I have ever read! Saw the author on Chiller TV explain how he used to go to the Amityville Horror house for inspiration for his book and thought I'd give it a read and boy am I glad I did! Characters are believable, plot has unexpected twists and turns, and the scary parts are spoooookier than I could have imagined! Loved it!!!
It's Just Alright
I wanted to read this book because I saw that Chiller was doing a film version and the preview made it seem extremely creepy. I have to say that although the book wasn't the worst I've ever read it certainly wasn't the best either. It was definitely not as scary as I thought it would be. Michael Laimo has nothing on Stephen King or Dean Koontz. The style in which the book was written did add to the suspense however. The way that Laimo switched between characters just before a climax in the story did keep me reading. I thought that more depth could have been added to the plot however and it could have developed into something more than just another story about zombies. The book was alright but it certainly didn't make me want to read any of Laimo's other works.
