It’s Tamsyn Poldhu’s first day as a police constable in her home town of Penzance in Cornwall. She already knows that life can be cruel, but she has no idea how tough it’s going to be.

Detective Inspector Rob Rego has just transferred to the southwest from Greater Manchester Police, which makes him lucky 13 – the thirteenth police officer of colour in Cornwall.

When a body washes up on a remote Cornish beach, police initially assume that it’s a suicide by drowning, until they discover that the victim had been dead 12 hours before being dumped at sea.

Time to solve the crime is running out – and Tamsyn’s involvement in the case goes deeper than she could ever have imagined.

***
The first in a new series of contemporary crime thrillers set in Britain's southwest.

Perfect for fans of Kathy Reichs, Simon McCleave and Ann Cleeves.

A great crime novel

Never have I read such specific descriptions of police procedure, investigation, and relations. Great read!

Nice change

Liked that it didn’t follow the usual form authors tend to follow Behind the scenes was more realistic. Did drag a bit at times. Attention to details/proof reading needed For example Tamsyn let’s Mo off leash, next page Tamsyn let’s Mo off leash. When was she put back on the leash? Did author forget he’d already had Tamsyn let her off?
Tamsyn doesn’t remember Ollie as it’d been 5 years since she’d seen him. Loss of memory of someone after only 5 years?
Pg 303 Revolution tells Tamsyn that George’s fingerprints were found all over the jack and drugs but none of hers were found. Tamsyn then asks “Did you find any prints at all?” Was she not listening? “Rugs shakes his head” in answer to her question
Otherwise a pretty food book although there weren’t really any surprises
