Sheila Kell has done it again. This is an amazing suspenseful story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A book that you won't want to put down. JD and Cassie had been friends in high school until Cassie moved away and JD was fed some lies that led to him disappearing from Cassie's life. Now Cassie is back in town and the last person she expected to be working with at her new job is JD. When JD is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and mother of his son, Cassie has to step up and help solve who did it. Loved the twists and turns that this story takes you through and look forward to the next book in this series. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Deadly Betrayal is the first book in the Coastal Investigation series. Cassie moves back to her hometown to start a new job as a private investigator, when she runs into her new co-worker and old flame, JD. Just as quickly, he’s accused of murder, and her first task is to clear his name. As they work together to rush to find who is guilty, can they rekindle their friendship and love?

It’s been a while since I’ve read a romantic suspense, and I’m so happy I picked up this book! Cassie and JD made a good team together, working to solve the case and also to find peace in their relationship. There was a lot of hurt that both needed to overcome, at the same time as solving a case that could put JD into prison for life, while he was just trying to fight for his son - that’s a lot to process in a short amount of time, haha! Cassie was great, full of curiosity and sweet and I liked her enthusiasm for the new position, as well as her interest in JD. I’m not going to lie, JD was not my favorite character or hero of a romance book, but again, he had a lot going on and couldn’t just dedicate himself to working things out and through with Cassie. But he was dedicated to his son and trying his best to not be who he was in some of his young adult years. This book had some interesting twists and turns, especially with the investigation, but I enjoyed it! I’m definitely looking forward to more from CI!

What an amazing and unpredictable book! Sheila Kell grabs you from page one and has you second guessing everything until the end. JD has had a very rough life. An alcoholic father who liked to do everything he could to sabotage JD. Bryce and Vinnie were always there to keep JD going and Cassie was the one that got away. Well Cassie has a few stories of her own to tell. When she leaves the FBI to come home she has no clue that she’s stepping into a murder mystery novel but she pulls herself up and takes the challenge on to help JD. I truly cannot wait for Sheila Kelly’s next book!
