She sees his face all the time—eyes open, eyes closed, it doesn't matter. When no one's around, she lets herself sink into her fear. He came for her once; he could come for her again.
When a sixty-eight-year-old woman is found dead outside the hospital in a wheelchair with an anti-abortion sign strapped to its back, Detective Madison Knight expects it to be an open-and-shut case. On the surface, there are no signs of foul play, but the deeper she digs, the suspicious death turns into a homicide. Just as the victim is identified as Faye Duncan, two more bodies turn up—Faye's niece and a homeless man.
Madison doesn't buy that a serial killer is on the loose, despite the conviction with which her ex-fiancé and fellow detective try to convince their superior. She sees the vagrant as sadly nothing more than collateral damage in a much bigger picture—but what motive for murder could span generations?
As Madison wades through all the secrets and lies, she uncovers some shocking and heartbreaking truths. She had trust issues before, but this investigation will remind her of the cost—sometimes fatal—of trusting the wrong person.
Deadly Impulse is a fast-paced crime novel with twists and turns you'll never see coming. Perfect for fans of police procedurals. Uncover clues, follow leads, and catch a killer like thousands of readers have done before you. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

Deadly Impulse: be prepared for sleepless nights
So glad I was a bit behind on my to read list, because I had just finished Carolyn Arnold's Just Cause, when Deadly Impulse hit my bookshelf. If you have not had the chance to experience the Detective Madison Knight crime series, these two books could be read together. But you will want to go back to read the rest of the series to enjoy the masterful way Carolyn Arnold weaves her plot lines with ticklers for future cases, and the continued development of Madison as a person.
Deadly Impulse brings Madison Knight three seemingly related murders to solve, and as usual she jumps into the investigation head first. Even though one case is not assigned to her, Madison does not stand on protocol--a habitual irritant to her boss--and nothing keeps her from following all leads.
Grappling with PTSD from a near-death experience, Madison constantly struggles to keep the vows she'd made to herself if she survived, as well as to honor her partner's request that she never again put herself in harm's way without backup. Can Madison control the headstrong impulsivity that has threatened her life and career over and over again? Especially with three victims calling to her for justice.
And then there's that hunky new guy who clearly wants more than casual dates. Can Madison break the cycle of destructive past relationships to take this chance at happiness?
The pace is fast, with plot twists to make the book hard to put down. Carolyn Arnold leaves just enough plot lines open-ended to make you anticipate reading the next book.
This is the perfect book to cuddle up with a mug of hot chocolate or a glass of wine on a cold winter day--or if you're lucky enough, to read on a sunny warm beach!
Carolyn Arnold is on my list of favorite writers--you won't go wrong reading any of the four series she's currently offering.
Cant get enough of this series. Cant get enough sleep either. I did Not come close to guessing the first killer. Then more came to light. Thanks for the ‘insomnia’ Carolyn😂
