The central plot of this novel is on Kerry Randolph, who desperately wants absolution and atonement for things he did while being a lieutenant although
his crimes seemed minor, money laundering for Kareem.
There was Jayne Morrison, an assistant U. S. Attorney, who struggled with her past and how ethical was in her attraction toward Kerry. Her issues with self esteem were revealed throughout story and how Kerry was attracted to and saw beauty in her. Although Kerry and Kareem were childhood friends, we find out why Kerry went to work for Kareem and how he was bound to him, Kareem wanted from Kerry everything that was beyond friendship, honor and loyalty. Debts had to be paid…
Kerry’s desire was return to being a doctor, have peace and pursue a relationship with Jayne. However, the past was never far from his mind and eventually caught up with him, people wanting information from him regarding Kareem, information that could threatened his
peaceful existence he was trying to establish. Wanda, Kareem’s mother became an important ally for Kerry. Of course, this threatened Kerry’s and Jayne’s relationship. Kerry was able to bring resolution to everyone’s satisfaction. In the end they both received their happy ending, even with
Also it was good to see familiar faces at the end with Kareem’s death. Many people could live

I really loved how the relationship between Kerry and Jayne developed, they both had doubts and fears to over come making their union inevitable to take place.
Thank you, Ann Christopher for writing a great trilogy, as always the characters are complex and and believable.
