Dealing with Bitterness

It is true, ‘life just is not fair’. We hurt each other needlessly, carelessly, and too frequently. Sometimes we do this unintentionally — these ‘injuries’ are easily solved. At other times, we ‘map out’ every step of how we can ‘pay back’, ‘get even’ with others. The results are devastating and the way back is especially difficult. For the hurt and embittered heart, life seems to come to a standstill, while life for the ones who hurt us seems to go on without consequence. “Life is not fair!”

We look for answers and closure in drugs, alcohol, sex, forsaking Christ and relationships. We are determined to ‘build (prison) walls’ and forget or drown the pain one way or the other. We ‘eat, drink and sleep’ the idea of ‘pay backs.’ Someone has thoughtfully said, “The bitter person is the one who foolishly thinks if they drink poison, that it will kill the other person.”
