HE CAN GUARD HER
Lady Phoebe Batten is pretty, vivacious, and yearning for a social life befitting the sister of a powerful duke. But because she is almost completely blind, her overprotective brother insists that she have an armed bodyguard by her side at all times-the very irritating Captain Trevillion.
FROM EVERY DANGER
Captain James Trevillion is proud, brooding, and cursed with a leg injury from his service in the King's dragoons. Yet he can still shoot and ride like the devil, so watching over the distracting Lady Phoebe should be no problem at all-until she's targeted by kidnappers.
BUT PASSION ITSELF
Caught in a deadly web of deceit, James must risk life and limb to save his charge from the lowest of cads-one who would force Lady Phoebe into a loveless marriage. But while they're confined to close quarters for her safekeeping, Phoebe begins to see the tender man beneath the soldier's hard exterior . . . and the possibility of a life-and love-she never imagined possible.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hoyt's eighth Maiden Lane series installment (after Darling Beast) imbues 18th-century England with vivid realism, as a protector falls in love with the woman he is guarding. Capt. James Trevillion, previously a member of the 4th Dragoons, has been hired by the Duke of Wakefield to guard his blind sister, Lady Phoebe Batten, from the threat of kidnapping. Though James doubts that his injured leg will hold up in a fight, he is reluctant to give up his post. Phoebe is initially annoyed by his intrusion into her life, but she comes to rely on his solid protection. Suspense ratchets up a notch when Phoebe and James must flee London to a location where he believes that he can keep her safe; in close proximity, the friends soon become lovers. Hoyt has created an especially strong admirable character in Phoebe, a woman who is determined to experience life to the fullest. Her innocent sensuality is both captivating and enchanting, creating scintillating romance between her and the stoic captain.

Another wonderful story
I love this author. She can tell a wonderful story. Her descriptions of scenery and characters pull you in and keep you hanging on till you can't keep your eyes open. Lol. Who needs sleep anyway? When you have a Maiden Lane book to read.
Phoebe and Trevillion finally get their story and it is beautiful and suspenseful. I love phoebe's strong heart and bravery as she overcomes her disability. Captain Trevillion makes a wonderful hero for our heroine as well. The chemistry between them is funny and touching.
The plot is well done. The mystery plays out slowly. I don't love the fairy tales at the beginning of each chapter but I don't let it stop me from loving the book. I just go back and read it separately.
Blindingly Good
I enjoyed this book and the fact that the h wasn’t perfect, but still loved and accepted.
Don’t start with this one
This is my favorite book of the series so far, but I think you need to know the characters before you can appreciate it fully. I loved the heroine before I started reading this book. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find this series.
