New adventures revealing secrets stemming from Beneath the Planet of the Apes

In Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Col. George Taylor (played by Charlton Heston) disappears into the Forbidden Zone, only to return in the film's climactic scene. For forty-eight years, the question has remained--what happened to Taylor?

Finally the truth is revealed. Beneath the irradiated wasteland, the astronaut faces the deadly wonders of a gleaming city and its inhuman citizenry. On the surface the gorillas--led by General Ursus--launch an all-out assault to exterminate the savage animals known as humans.

And out in the desert, the chimpanzee scientist Milo strives to reconstruct the spacecraft that brought the humans from the past. Events spiral at a breakneck pace, with the fate of a world at stake.

A must-read for all Ape fans

For any true Planet of the Apes fan, this book is required reading. It truly brings together all of the missing pieces throughout Planet of the Apes and Beneath Planet of the Apes and gives Taylor a deep, rich and well deserved backstory. Upon finishing this book you'll immediately want to treat yourself to a Planet of the Apes movie marathon as it will feel as though you were shared the secrets of what was not shown in the movies. This book is highly entertaining and is gripping from beginning to end.

Could have been so much better

Tries to tie a lot of loose ends from the movies. Doesn’t do a bad job. But then decides to tie together stories from the Marvel comics version of the apes like the big brains. Introduces new subplots like the Texas secession and then goes nowhere with it. And of the course the bizarre APE-MAN plot. It’s like the author trying to put everything in but the kitchen sink. If he had stuck to his original ambition trying to tie together the loose ends between the two movies it would’ve been a fantastic read. As it is there are too many distractions.

One thing that was surprising was he knew the key quotes from beneath the planet of the apes. Could’ve been fixed by simply watching a movie in that particular scene. He leaves one or two out. Seems very uneven for someone who paid that much attention to detail.
