ARE THEY IN TOO DEEP?
In Deep Cover, ex-Navy SEAL Cabe Moss always comes when called to duty—at all costs. Even though the death of his fiancée nearly destroyed him, Cabe won’t let his past interfere with any work that has to get done. When his latest task pushes him to team up with FBI operative Amy Murray, a fierce beauty with the undercover skills to match, Cabe must admit that, for the first time in years, he wants to do more than just complete their mission together…
Amy was born ready for this assignment, but working side-by-side with the strong, silent, and frustratingly professional Cabe seems to be the biggest challenge of all. But when the sparks begin to fly—and the stakes rise to dangerous heights—the only thing Amy is left worrying about is how she can resist him. Their lives may be in danger, but their hearts hold the biggest risk of all…

Wow! This is my first Scarlett Cole book and I’m a forever fan because this is one of the best romantic suspense stories I’ve read in a long time. Her storyline is smart and sophisticated, her characters are multi-faceted and they all have very personal reasons why they chose the careers they’re in. It was fascinating learning about casino dealers, the art of card counting and the laws about money laundering that made this such a compelling story. FBI Agent Amy Murray and Eagle Security expert Cabe Moss are part of a multi-agency undercover operation but it’s their instant sexual attraction to each other that adds a complication they never saw coming. As their long term undercover mission continues day by day the passion Cabe and Amy share brings these lovers closer to what they hope will be a permanent relationship. The rising tension of each new development in this suspenseful drama had me holding my breath and rooting for the good guys and this author did not disappoint! I read an early copy of this book supplied by St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
We've gotten to know Cabe, the hero, in the previous two books. He is part of the Eagle Securities team along with Six and Mac, the heroes from book 1 & 2. Amy, the heroine, is an FBI agent and new to the series. We have continued side characters that have been in previous books.
The biggest thing we have learned about Cabe that affects this book is that he lost his fiance while she was on active duty two years prior. I'm a bit conflicted when a deceased significant other is involved. On one hand, I don't want to see a main character pining for anyone other than their love interest in the book. On the other hand, it also shows how the new love interest was able to help them move on when no one else could.
I think the author did a good job of creating a balance with Cabe. He was still mourning his deceased fiance but he also recognized that Amy was different and there was something real there. I also like how the author had each book with their own storyline that ultimately tied all three of the books together. Overall, this is a great romantic suspense series that I have enjoyed. I must say that if this is the last book in the series, that I’m at a 50/50 split on really liking how everything was wrapped up to being a little sad because there are a few secondary characters that I’d really like to know more about. But in the end, this was a fun and easy read for me that, had life allowed, I would have finished quite quickly, but since that wasn’t an option I will say that when I could steal a few moments to myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it until the very last page.
I loved Cabe. Honest, loyal and sweet but he’s constructed titanium walls around his heart. I empathized with him, I did, because that kind of loss is something that one never gets over, but I also wanted to reach out and tear those walls down because he was such a good guy that he deserved to give himself a second chance to find love.
Amy was pretty amazing. Sassy, snarky, determined and highly intelligent. I mean this woman was a force. And then you add in her background ~ the good, the heartbreaking and the unique ~ little facts that make her who she is and she’s kind of everything wrapped up in a nice little package.
For all of the issues Amy and Cabe had to deal with, both personal and professional, I really liked how everything played out with their relationship. There were the ups and downs and a couple of bad choices tossed into the mix, but it was the fact that they actually communicated like mature adults through most of it that had me rooting for them. They were honest, or at least as honest as they could be depending on where they were at in their heads, and it made everything work for me. The smexy was definitely smexy, I loved their bantering and how much they simply respected the other on every level and where they ended up at the end of the book was perfect for them.
I’m still crossing my toes that this isn’t the last time we’ll hear about these characters, because there are definitely a few that I’d love to know more about, Harley, Lite and Buddha to be exact, but if this is a true farewell then I have to say it was done very well. We got to spend time with everyone and there was a nice little secondary storyline woven into the mix that definitely balanced the tension out with humor and heart and helped to tie up things quite nicely for all of these characters.
