I wanted to like it so bad
I love that a black woman wrote this but that’s what makes it even more unfortunate that I didn’t love the story. When you write a story, switching between a person’s point of view every chapter, it usually is supposed to add depth to the story and that didn’t happen in this case. It actually frustrated me that between Layla and Darius’s point of view, there were way too many events that occurred that it felt like I was starting over every single time I had to switch between their point of views. Also, when you switched between point of views, they would change how the events played out. For instance, when Layla would say how something happened, and then Darius would say how it happened, they would quote people differently. I read a lot of books in my life And the cover art is really what got me to read the book in the first place so I really wanted to like the book but I unfortunately did not. The only reason I finished it was because I was too deep in to stop and I paid five dollars. Had that not happened, I would not have finished the book. I gave it three stars because a black woman wrote this, but had this not in the case, I think I would’ve given it one or two.
