Publisher Description
The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.

The movie was amazing….
I’ve never known the movie to be better than the book. I don’t know if that’s the case here. Dickey seemed to have too much to say, and took such poetic license to say it all; spilling, sloshing, and oozing around in every direction in the first half of the book. He seemed to settle in after a bit and find himself eventually. Perhaps the beautiful agony of it all made it difficult to divide, conquer and focus on telling the story. Maybe John Boorman just magically divined the most beautiful pieces of this book and etched them into celluloid infamy. Magic or genius that’s exactly what Boorman did. Either way, the book or film, this is a story so painfully and beautifully rendered that it will only become more and more impactful, more legendary, over time.
