Deserts in the World

Byline: DR. S.M. ALAM and DR.M.A. KHAN The word desert actually means uninhabited, waterless, and treeless region. Approximately one-third of Earth's land surface is desert. The biggest of them all is the Sahara desert. It is located in North Africa and measures about 9,065,000 square kilometers. Some other deserts are the Sonoran in the southwestern United States, the Sahara, Monte desert in Argentina, Chihuahuan in north central Mexico and the Australian desert.
