Sondra is happy and excited to be sharing the adventures of Harper Fairchild with you. For many years, she wrote about her alter ego Harper for her own pleasure but was too busy raising her family, teaching her students, and traveling with her husband to put Harper’s adventures into book form. After twenty-three years of marriage, she lost her husband to melanoma. As his illness began to take its toll, he retired to his family farm in Decorah, Iowa.
So Sondra packed up her “imaginary friends” and they all moved with him. In her final conversations with her husband, he was insistent that she “keep writing” and “share her work.”
Decorah is a lovely town that provides many of the visual images of Little Norway. You may find many places in the book in Decorah. The river, the bluffs, a beautiful park, the country churches as well as the big ones, and the wonderful coffee shops are there to be enjoyed by both residents and tourists. But Marjorie, and all of the other characters are the products of Sondra’s imagination. The real people in Decorah were created, like everyone else, by God. She hopes you like Harper, Apple, and Little Mac as much as she does. Thank you for sharing this new path in her life.
