Disobedient Tribesman

The first book of at least a three book saga, set in a Mayan village 1000 years ago. Two teens, Tark, a young man of fifteen, and Nara, the thirteen year old daughter of the village elder, surrender to their forbidden desires, and must suffer the consequences of their choice. A timeless story of first love, and the lure of awakening sexual desire, it examines the lives of our primitive ancestors in a deep and compelling way. Sad, soe times funny, with joy alternating with utter terror, the teens try to make society bend to their will, rather than submitting to society’s traditional dictates, with disastrous results.

Tark’s efforts to claim the favor of the Gods works handily on the simple villagers, (other than Nara’s father!), but has the unforeseen effect of attracting the scrutiny of the Priests, with complex and unwelcome results. This books delves deeply into the tendency of societies to limit the individual, to maintain order and stability. Young people tend to resist this, and our distant ancestors were not much better than ourselfs at obeying!

A tragic love story, in the form of Romeo and Juliette, with more sex and less death! You’ll see that teenagers haven’t changed all that much in a thousand years!
Disobedient Tribesman will be followed by Nara’s Journey and end in The Shaman’s Prophecy.
