DISPLACED

This children's book is a collection of beautiful photomontages and brief stories about fourteen animals from all over the world that become displaced due to climate change. Each story begins with a very short description of the animal's habitat and illuminates why their current home is at risk. Human activity exacerbating climate change and climate change itself causes major havoc in each of these habitats in different ways. These include polar ice melting, sea level rise, floods, droughts, fires, severe storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, ocean acidification, and human migration. These disasters send each one of the animals on a fantastical journey for survival displacing them to bizarre new habitats. It is left up to the reader to guess whether they will ultimately be able to survive in their new home. Their displacement creates chaos and ultimately rings the alarm. People hear the call and respond. This book is based in science with a clear departure into fantasy to send an empowering message and reveal a positive very hopeful ending. It is a great way to introduce the topic of climate change to children. As a bonus, there is a comprehensive section at the end of the book for parents, teachers, and older children providing a summary of facts to help answer questions from children about climate change.
