Over thirty years ago, technical staff in our company conducted their first studies to develop a new hygiene product for caring for sick and bedridden patients.
The ultimate objective of these trials was to design a sponge that contained a soapy gel impregnated in its fibres, which, in contact with water, would release its active ingredient and be ready for immediate application.
All of this aimed to reduce cross-infections which were constantly occurring among patients and healthcare staff as a result of different hygiene processes performed with reusable materials at that time.
The reduction of these infections was so considerable that the use of this type of sponge has grown exponentially in the last three decades. Nowadays, single-use soapy sponges are considered a product of absolute primary need in all healthcare centres where patient hygiene is required.
Furthermore, we can highlight the significant financial savings that are achieved using single-use soapy sponges, given that washing and disinfection of all the materials used during the hygiene process can be discontinued.
