Warrior Talia Avi lost her family, her people, and her telepathy to the fascist Federated Colonies military. Rescued from her ravaged planet by Dissenter guerillas three weeks ago, Talia's in mourning, and struggling to connect with baseline humans.

Extracting fourteen rebels on Rattri from under the noses of the occupying Federateds is the biggest mission she's ever had. Sure, she can fight, but can she maneuver the subtle currents of an undercover mission, while still struggling with her own trauma? Can she truly trust her new compatriots without being able to feel their emotions and intentions?

Miki, a brilliant engineer, and Faigin, an augmented soldier, are experienced with extractions, and have a straightforward plan. But of course, no plan survives the first encounter with the enemy. When the whole planet is ruled by your enemy, and the people you're rescuing have their own conflicts, things can get sticky fast. Talia is going to have to forge new trust just to get out alive.
