Caleb “Doc” Barnes is the last bachelor in his group of “brothers”. He had a very dark childhood and keeps himself from getting close to anyone. Izzy is a bail bondsman who is in Rapid City chasing a skip. When Caleb has some trouble at work he decides he will help Izzy in her mission. Izzy is tough and I really liked how she could hold her own. Has Caleb finally found someone he can trust with his secrets? Will he be able to trust himself to get close to someone else? This is the final story in the Burnout series, and I enjoyed it.
Doc
After reading Shooter, the first book in this series, I read the blurb for the other books and decided I’d try Doc, even though it was the last of the series. I found Doc to be of a similar plot type but less exciting although the steamy relationship was still there. I noticed some story inconsistencies, which always annoy me in any book. In Doc, for example, the heroine started out in a Mustang (Ford) then the rest of the book indicated she drove a Charger (Dodge). I admit that to many this probably isn’t a big deal but, for me, this ruins a book because then it has me looking for more inconsistencies.
It’s still a book of a hot ex-military alpha meeting a strong, no-nonsense heroine with lots of steam and a HEA ending if that’s what you’re interested in.
