Publisher Description

'As long as people have lived here, they've gone out of their way to avoid the woods...'

Two teenage girls disappear into an ancient wood, a foreboding and malevolent presence both now and in the past. The modern motorway bends to avoid it, as did the old Roman road. In 1917 the Doctor and Amy are desperate to find out what's happened to Rory, who's vanished too.

But something is waiting for them in the woods. Something that's been there for thousands of years. Something that is now waking up.

A thrilling, all-new adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the spectacular hit Doctor Who series from BBC Television.

Not the greatest

I agree some of these newer books don't seem to know the characters, this one is decent but still not screenworthy. It was a little boring at times. I'd recommend getting a hard copy from a public library instead of buying. So so at best.

More Doctor

The story was fairly good, very much Doctor Who. One thing I didn't like was there wasn't much of the Doctor in the book. I felt like he was a secondary character whereas Amy, Rory, and the rest were the mains. I don't think it was worth the price I paid but still a decent read.

An Author Who Captures the Characters ...

Without all the cliché's. I've read a lot of Doctor Who books over the years, and only recently started reading the new books. The first I read, though a good story, relied too much on cliche. It was almost as if the author didn't bother to research and learn the characters! Not so with this book! Una McCormack, whether she already is a fan and knows the characters, did a lot of research, or just got lucky (which I don't believe to be the case) she really did nail the characters both in personalities and interactions. Without using the cliche phrases, she captured the Doctor, Amy and Rory very well. This is a book worth reading, and could easily have been made into an episode for the series!
