Publisher Description
'So concerned with the trivialities of everyday life … and so shrewd.'
London Evening News
Against the background of the rise and fall of fascism (Mussolini, Hitler) and post-war communism (Stalin, Khrushchev and Mao's China), Guareschi looks down with hawk's-eye vision into the lives of the ordinary people of La Bassa.
Here in the little world of Don Camillo the passion for politics is so intense that it becomes worrying, and the author delivers his message with humour and insight – to cut through the prejudice and political correctness and to follow one’s conscience, one's inner voice, rather than any political dogma.

Don Camillo book series
My father in the late 60's left one of these books on the table he often read at. I picked it up and in a sense I've never put them down. I've sought out all the Don Camillo stories I could find and was glad to see them pop up on iBooks. Now these thought provoking stories that lay bare human emotions and their consequences often using spiritual logic with grace and wit are astounding.
I don't believe a thinking person's library is complete without the works of Giovannino Guareschi. Once you get one, and I recommend starting with the first book " The Little World of Don Camillo", you'll be hooked and start to care about an Italian priest and his frenemy a communist town mayor something you wouldn't have believed possible in the late 1940's and early 50's. I hope these books give you even half the joy they gave ne.
