With Don’t Believe Everything You Think, self-help author Joseph Nguyen provides a trail of breadcrumbs to lead us to the path of inner peace. Nguyen’s compelling premise is that our brain’s outdated fight-or-flight reflex triggers negative, reactionary thinking based on fear and anxiety. That thinking keeps us from deeper thoughts, which draw upon divine energy and lead to achieving spiritual wellbeing. (So: “thinking” bad, “thoughts” good.) Nguyen illustrates his argument both with Zen parables and examples from his own life. For example, setting your personal goals based on thinking is doomed to failure, but goals that come from thought bring joy because they’re things you want to do, not things that you think you have to do. There are useful short exercises throughout the book to help you differentiate between thinking and thought. Don’t Believe Everything You Think is a thoughtful way to help you retrain your brain.

Solid read
This is the first book I have read cover to cover as an adult and I was glad to find a book that includes one of my most favorite topics (Human Psychology) and goes into specific detail on how the human thought process works.
