Sparks fly when the hot-shot divorce lawyer meets the high-powered wedding planner. The only question is, what kind?
If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions. . . .
1. Pre-nups are your friend.
2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing.
3. And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?
But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner—the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces—is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.
The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game—and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

Praise for Down with Love

“Hilarious, hot, and heartfelt! I was captivated by this fast-paced, funny, sexy book from the first page. Everything about this book was fantastic, and I’m already panting to get my hands on the next one!”—USA Today bestselling author Christi Barth
“Charlie's sassy determination met Max's undeniable sex appeal and charm to create the most spectacular fireworks. Down with Love is the kind of story that gives all the feels and leaves you wanting more.”—Aliza Mann, author of Breaking His Rules
Lovingly rendered present-day Chicago is almost a character in its own right in Meader's slightly messy series launch. Max Henderson, a high-powered divorce attorney, literally collides with his brother's wedding planner, Charlie Love. He's instantly smitten, but Charlie dismisses Max outright despite her own lust for him. Later they bond over a love of Hitchcock films, a disdain for asparagus, and anger over bad calls at a Cubs game. When they fall into bed, Charlie is adamant that it's just a fling, while Max is surprised to find he's interested in romance. When he realizes Charlie has rewritten his position on love, he becomes determined to convince her that he's the one for her. The couple's reservations against declaring their feelings are occasionally excessive, but the repartee, vivid sex scenes, and tongue-in-cheek approach to romance tropes make Max and Charlie's journey worth following.

I’ve always enjoyed Ms Meader’s stories, strong female characters who succeed on their own terms...having alpha males along for the ride doesn’t hurt either. But in this story I had a really difficult time connecting with Charlie.
I’m not sure why I was unable to imagine her as nothing more than a two dimensional character on the page because she’s successful, intelligent, independent, has a wry wit and can talk circles around Max, yet in some way she didn’t resonate with me...as do this author’s typical characters who pop off the page larger than life...as did Max.
The story itself was smart, fast paced and engaging, the secondary characters were written in such a entertaining way as to make for a nice segue for future stories in the series.

Opposite Ends of the Spectrum
Max Henderson, partner in a successful Chicago law firm, has seen the worst of "happily ever after". Coming off a broken engagement himself, Max is all too aware of what happens when two people "fall" out of love for one reason or the other. Although he had good role models growing up, Max remains skeptical that true love will find him. So he devotes his days to helping women, not only get what they deserve in a settlement, but also helping to restore their self worth.
Charlie Love's mom passed away when she was younger and she was bounced around in the foster system. Finally landing in a loving, supporting home Charlie sees what true love can be. Charlie works hard, using her party planning skills, to build a successful wedding planning business. She helps couples plan the beginning to their "happily ever afters". It's during one of these meetings, that she first lays eyes on Max...
Max's little brother is getting married! Instead of being super supportive, Max encourages a prenup under the guise of looking out for his brother. He knows, he's been burned by a greedy ex. But the more time he spends with Charlie, the more he can see love in his future. Now he just has to convince Charlie. Charlie wants a one night stand and Max wants a future....
I absolutely LOVED this novel!!! It had all the feels. It was funny, witty, and heartfelt. Real life issues of love, health, divorce, self worth, and foster care were successfully woven throughout the story. I wish I could've had a room where I went to "work out" my anger on my ex! AND the cute little dog scenes were hilarious (puppy dog eyes). I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
A delight to read
**Received and ARC of Down with Love from the publisher, Loveswept, via NetGalley, for an honest review, no compensation was given.
Down with Love by Kate Meader is the first book in the new series Love Wars, and what an amazing start it is. This book was witty, hilarious, sexy and just pure joy to read. I really adored all the pop culture references both old and new, that this author incorporated into this book. The writing was spot on and the character development was thorough.
Some could say this is an enemies to friends love story, but I don't really see it that way. I never got the feeling that Charlie and Max hated or even disliked each other. I felt an immediate attraction between the two, they may have fought the attraction but it was definitely there. For me this made the book much more interesting.
Charlie, a wedding planner, meets Max, a divorce attorney, while she is planning Max's younger brother's wedding. Charlie Love comes from humble beginnings and has worked for everything she has ever gotten. She is a delightfully strong, independent woman who speaks her mind. Max, "King of the Kiss" Henderson come from a wealthy family, but there is more than meets the eye on that count.
The author takes the reader on a wonderfully journey starting with one steamy kiss, lots of hot arguing, some unexpected surprises, all combine to make one very hot romance. Ms. Meader did a great job with development of the secondary characters. I would love to read more about that sexy Brit, Lucus Wright and the shy, soft spoken Grant Lincoln, who are both friends and fellow lawyers with Max. Down with Love is fun sexy read well worth your time. Enjoy!
