A century later, Mason is a doctor in France and she discovers a young girl in distress. Following her instincts, she brings the girl to Ian, her old mentor and lover. The reunion isn't exactly romantic as Mason discovers Ian has a new lover, Jason - who's also a vampire and a scientist. Together, the three vampires try to solve the mystery of young Dorothea and uncover a larger plot inside of the vampire community.

Each answer about the girl brings more questions, and puts Mason on a collision course with the dhampir who mediates between vampires and the rest of the world—The Envoy, Lennix Creighton. With so many lives in the balance, Mason risks her own undead existence to save those she loves from meeting the sun one final time.
