Some may think Salena has a gift, but after a lifetime of experience she knows not only is it a curse, but those who are ethically challenged will hunt her to the ends of the galaxy to use her for purposes she’d rather not think about.
Grier is a Prince who will someday be King, as such he looks at Shelter City and recognizes it for the complicated situation it is. A powder keg on the verge of exploding in their faces, a place his people don’t have dominion over, yet feel as though they are being prevented from living in harmony with as well.
This done in one story establishes the situation on Qurilixen, introduces a LOT of fun and interesting characters, and opens an arc about a group of refugees struggling to know who to trust… their governing body doesn’t seem to have their best interests at heart, those who gave them the land seem to look down on them while denying them help, a planet that has resolved its own risks of civil war in the past may be on the verge of a new variation on that old theme, only this civil war may be between natives and aliens making a home on their world, unless cooler minds can prevail.

The Next Generation

So now we have the grown children of the original Dragon Lords and Lords of the Var. It’s now thirty years later and Qurilixen is a very different world. I think it’s fitting that in this first book we have Grier, son of Ualan, the Barbarian Prince in the first Dragon Lords book.
Grier is nothing like his father and his “courtship” is anything but conventional. Of course, Salena has nothing in common with a typical bride. If fact she has no interest whatsoever in being one. Despite their disastrous first meeting the two of them cannot fight fate or the will of the gods. But they have a long road to travel before they find their HEA.
No spoilers. Don’t read reviews that tell you what will happen. Just read the book and discover it all yourself. And while you can absolutely read this as a stand-alone, I promise once you do, you’re going to want to go back to the beginnings, to Barbarian Prince.
I’m so thrilled Michelle has decided to continue to write about this amazing world she created. I hope she never stops.

Very entertaining
This is the first book in the Qurilixen World that I have read, and I thought that it was very entertaining. The shifters, whether related or not, had a good rapport with each other, and their antics made me laugh. The author managed to give the reader a good sense of each character’s personality just by their verbal interactions, and even with all of their different quirks, I loved them all. Grier was so sweet that I couldn’t help but fall for him, and Salena made the perfect mate for him. As for Grace, Jaxx, Payton, Roderick, and the others, I can’t wait to read their stories.
