Publisher Description
With a cast of beloved characters from previous Pern novels, Dragongirl is another triumph for Todd McCaffrey—and a riveting chapter for the Dragonriders of Pern.
Young Fiona, rider of the gold queen Talenth, has returned with the dragons and riders who fled into the past to heal their battle wounds and prepare to fight anew the menace of Thread. Now more than three years older, Fiona is no longer a child but a woman—thrust into authority by a shocking tragedy. But leading weyrfolk who are distrustful of a young outsider will be only one of her challenges. Despite gaining reinforcements from the past, too few dragons have survived the recent plague to stem the tide of the intensifying Threadfall. As a senior Weyrwoman, Fiona must take decisive action. With the aid of Lorana, the rider who sacrificed her dragon for others, and Fiona’s true love, the harper Kindan, she proposes a daring, nearly impossible plan. But if it succeeds, it just might save them all.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Older and wiser after three turns in the past, young Weyrwoman Fiona and Talenth, her golden queen dragon, return to continue the fight against the deadly Threadfall in McCaffrey's romantic, highflying sequel to Dragonheart. This time out the battle is made more difficult by a horrifying disease that is steadily killing off the dragons. Despite finding a cure, the fear persists that there won't be enough dragons to battle the next Threadfall. In the meantime, a kinky love quartette between Fiona, dragonrider T'Mar, Weyrwoman and ex-queenrider Lorana, and Harper/Weyrlingmaster Kindan creates friction, especially when both Lorana and Fiona become pregnant as threats to Pern increase. McCaffrey's assured characterizations and ease with referencing Pern's elaborate history make this a hardy fantasy that faithfully echoes and builds upon his mother's original vision.

Wonderfull
I loved the suspense of the book. There were so many dramatic events and surprises. I loved it the whole way through.
Not his best work
Love the dragon rider series and was thrilled by Todd's first books. However, they have slowly dropped in my estimation. This book, while well written was just about who was with who and blah, blah. The books have always had relationships in them and the impact they have had on others and Pern as well as Pern and the dragons impacts on their relationships. This book could have been any soap opera that just happened to be on Pern. I can't even remember if it had a fraction of a plot. Where is Todd going with this? I'm actually going to read part of the new release before buying it this one was so poor...a first out of over 100 books by either McCaffrey.
Terrible
This book is so terrible that I have read half of it and finally stopped reading. The characters are annoying and trite, even the characters that had been wonderful such Kindan and M'tal have become vapid. I had planned to read the entire Pern series and am so close to finishing but have given up since Todd is the author of the remaining books. I can't believe the editor allowed this book to be published. It's even worse than the previous book in the series, and that was terrible also, but at least I could finish it.
