APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Families can sometimes get in the way of romance, but Tessa Bailey takes it up a notch in this steamy love story. When professional hockey player Sig Gauthier and concert harpist Chloe Clifford first meet, the romantic sparks fly. They soon find out, though, that his gold-digging dad and her controlling mother have been dating—and just got engaged. The strain of being future stepsiblings becomes a terrible strain on the new lovers’ lives. Bailey layers on the family drama on both sides of the equation, making the couple’s conundrum just the tip of the iceberg. Leaning into the quasi-forbidden aspect of the romance, she turns up the heat on each stolen-moment encounter until the sexual sizzle reaches peak intensity. You’ll be right there with the frustrated, deliriously in-love couple as they deal with perilous roadblocks.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Bailey follows The Au Pair Affair with another irresistible sports rom-com. After a difficult childhood with a struggling single mother, Sig Gauthier basks in his newfound financial comfort as a member of the Boston Bearcats hockey team. When his truck breaks down while he's driving through Connecticut with a dead cellphone, he walks into a nearby country club for help, where he meets Chloe Clifford, a beautiful blonde harp player. The pair are smitten from the first glance and share a passionate kiss. There's just one thing standing in the way of their relationship: Sig's absentee father, who wants back into his life, happens to be engaged to Chloe's mother. After Chloe moves to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music and play with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the pair try to avoid each other—and their feelings—to stave off a scandal that would put both their futures in jeopardy. But the chemistry between these soon to be stepsiblings is explosive and ignoring it proves impossible. Readers who don't like the instalove trope may not buy into the immediate connection between the leads, but Bailey backs it up with thoughtful characterization and red-hot sex scenes. This is a winner.
Customer Reviews
Review worthy. Highly recommend.
I don’t write reviews often but I think this deserved the review so more people will read it. I read a lot of books, they are mostly all pretty predictable or at least follow a general path. This one had me though, I still got the HEA, but for a minute I didn’t know how she was going to get there. She did though and it was totally worth the read! Five stars!
Odd story premise
I struggled with this one. The entire premise of the story is that Sig's dad is marrying Chloe's mom and they'll be step siblings so they can't be in a relationship. However, they met before they knew each other in the capacity of step siblings and they're already adults. The entire conflict is based on them trying to resist each other because the relationship is somehow taboo and forbidden in their respective career circles. It was such a main point of the story that it really detracted the love interest. It had its cute moments, but I had to put it down multiple times because every mention of step siblings made we want to roll my eyes, and it was mentioned ALL THE TIME.
Really Good
Couldn’t put it down
