Life in Gaminia's capital — Northcrest — is tarnished with unease when war suddenly looms in the north. The Kaspicians have not been heard of for centuries, hidden beyond the near impassable, wintry Mount Numanich. Now they are ready to invade.

Aurelia, despite her high status and studies as a healer, leads an uneventful life compared to her sister — a secret agent — and her troubled brother — a big time drunk. Not only that, she is a social outcast because of her dark skin and curly hair, unable to fit in with the other nobles. But she's always had the power to dream of incredible things, a gift which begins to change, right as news of the potential Kaspician invasion reaches her ears. Ethereal voices begin to call to her with warnings, she travels to strange places in her dreams and experiences the supernatural in a way that is all too real. When she gets the sense that a great power is growing inside her, strong enough to turn the tide in Northcrest's favour, she embarks on a quest to stop the enemy's plans.

But she is not the only one with hidden powers. Northcrest has many secrets, and some monsters are hiding in plain sight. As Aurelia's magic blossoms, so does her understanding of who she is and the plight of her ancestors. Whether she can save Northcrest and her family depends on how willing she is to accept her true identity.
