Drinker

I drank until I was full, then I drank more for those waiting for us back home.

There are Elders, and then there are Drinkers.

As a Drinker on his frozen home planet, our hero travels long, painful miles--more each year--across the frozen tundra. Through fields of sharp black rocks and over endless, featureless blue ice.

His mission: gather water from the shrinking oceans, and carry it back to his waiting people. In his belly.

If he survives the trip.

"Drinker" tells the unforgettable tale of a young alien who just might become great.

A prequel to Michael Jasper's near-future science fiction novel The Wannoshay Cycle.

"'Drinker' by Michael Jasper provides a model for enveloping readers in a nonhuman, alien culture... Mournful in tone, but ending with a bit of hope, Jasper's understated prose provides food for thought about our own adaptation [or lack thereof] to planetary changes." -- The Fix
