Quite simply one of the best books I’ve ever read. A novel in verse or, if you prefer, an epic poem.
It’s what Wilfred Owen might have written if he’d survived WWI, though it’s distinctly American. The Great American novel, but set amid the horrors of the Great War and its aftermath.
