Every page I read made me more engaged. I finished it in just five days and all my friends were shocked that I read three hundred pages of in it just a day. I cannot wait to get west and read it and learn what happens to rose and Charles.

Timeless.

I read this book for the first time when I was just a middle schooler. I was young and loved reading, it was my escape. I don’t know why but the title stood out to me. I looked at it and put it back. I went back to the library the next day and checked it out after not being able to stop thinking about it.

Once I began reading I couldn’t put the book down. I remember reading it at the table as I ate dinner, between assignments in class, in the hall between bells, especially before bed. It stayed with me everywhere. I related to Rose, Charles, and Neddy in ways that I couldn’t explain. A part of me was attached so heavily to this book and it has been part of me since I made my first pass through it.

I began re-reading the book as often as possible. The library stopped asking me to return it and just assumed I’d bring it back before the end of the year each year. I bought the digital version about 2-3 years ago, I’m an adult now and have read it maybe twice since. Shame that I don’t get more time to read but, as is life.

Now, however— I read it to my infant son. A fairytale to remind him that life can be an adventure, scary, and if you work hard and are very brave... extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

You have no idea what this book has meant to me. I have loved many books but when someone asks what my favorite book is... even after all these years I still say “East”. Following it up with “The Hobbit, also.” I’m a huge Tolkien fan as well, but that’s besides the point.

Thank you for a lifetime of joy and for giving me something I adore to share with my son that he can hold dear as our fairy-tale of Rose, from far distant lands chasing her White Bear.

Incredible!

I love this story in all its forms and East does not disappoint! Beautifully written and incredibly engaging, it’s the kind of book you lose track of time in. Just amazing!
