Education, Collective Intelligence and Distance Learning

Information has always been a major ingredient in education. The rapidly expanding network to access, electronic libraries and databases provides the basis for a potential learning revolution. New media gives students access to vast amounts of information and will move the locus of power from the teacher to the learner. The information age of today needs a new model for education like distance learning; hence the potential exists for a learning revolution. Teaching should focus on helping students know what questions to ask, where to find the information and how to structure the information once they have found it. Distance Education focuses on technology and instructional systems design seeking to deliver on-line education to students. By the development of knowledge shared in cyberspace possibility to emerge of collective intelligence in a wide variety of forms of consensus decision-making in humans and computer networks.
