Cet article propose une reflexion sur la contribution de l'education non formelle a l'alphabetisme de jeunes adultes peu scolarises a partir de resultats descriptifs d'une recherche ethnographique en milieux communautaires quebecois, notamment dans des Carrefour jeunesseemploi (CJE). L'auteure decrit des pratiques qui peuvent contribuer a l'alphabetisme. Elle s'appuie sur des resultats de l'Enquete internationale sur l'alphabetisation des adultes (EIAA) indiquant que les activites de lecture et d'ecriture de la vie courante favorisent l'alphabetisme et sur le constat de participation a des activites de preparation a l'emploi faisant appel a de la lecture et a de l'ecriture de jeunes gens peu scolarises. This article reflects upon the contribution of informal education on the literacy rates of young adults with low levels of education, based on descriptive results of ethnographic research in a Quebecois community setting, notably at the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi (CJE) (youth employment centre). The author describes practices that can contribute to literacy. She draws on results of the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS), which indicate that reading and writing activities in everyday life promote literacy, and on her observation of young individuals with low levels of education participating in employment preparation activities that require reading and writing.
