Effy's Fan

Effy's Fan teaches the “f” letter and sound as Effy fans, huffs, and puffs throughout the book. Have your child help her try to huff out the fire and then predict what will happen next. This helps your child understand cause- effect story format. Use a story board to find the series of problems, plans to solve it, attempts, and outcomes. Find letter “f”s at the beginning and ending of words, and then use your hand to feel the air when you say the word. Children easily remember this letter-sound association. This is also a great story for making up your own episode. The wire catches on fire on page 10. How did Effy try to put it out? What happened? Help your child write and illustrate his or her own cause-effect ending to the story.
