Publisher Description
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Brazilian psychiatrist Cury is the author of a number of books dealing with self-help, social criticism, and psychological themes. Most notably, he has developed a theory of multifocal intelligence, which incorporates how the mind works in several dimensions, e.g., conscience, memory, and the formation of thought. In this first volume of "Analysis of the Intelligence of Christ," Cury claims to be applying this theory to Jesus as described in the gospels but does something entirely different. In a series of brief chapters, he presents evidence that Jesus in fact existed and was not merely a literary product, demonstrates the importance of studying Jesus's intellect scientifically, and considers how Jesus would impact medicine and politics if he were alive today. He then describes the content and methodology of Jesus's teachings and his interpersonal relationships. Because he asserts firmly from the beginning that we would all do well to follow Jesus's example, it seems contradictory that Cury identifies himself as an atheist, but his perspective is consistently humanistic. An optional purchase for theological libraries with comprehensive Christology collections, as well as academic collections on psychology of religion. Carolyn Kost, Stevenson Library, Pebble Beach, CA.
