Publisher Description

From New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman comes the first book in an electrifying series about a brother and sister who must harness their powers and find their place in a sharply divided world. Everyone in Vallen knows that ice wolves and scorch dragons are sworn enemies who live deeply separate lives.
So when twelve-year-old orphan Anders takes one elemental form and his twin sister, Rayna, takes another, he wonders whether they are even related. Family or not, Rayna is Anders’s only true friend. She’s nothing like the brutal, cruel dragons who claimed her as one of their own and stole her away.
To rescue her, Anders must enlist at the foreboding Ulfar Academy, a school for young wolves that values loyalty to the pack above all else. But for Anders, loyalty is more complicated than obedience, and friendship is the most powerful shapeshifting force of all.
“If you’ve ever wanted to go on an adventure,

Great Fantasy Middle Grade

This was such a good book. The whole premise of ice wolves and scorch is just awesome. Anders and Rayna are such likable characters. I highly recommend this and cannot wait to read the next book.

An Excellent Read. I Would Forget The Plot and Reread if I Could!

This book was very good. I finished it in about two days, but that’s probably because I’m a fast reader and I had plenty of spare time to read it. I would say for someone else, it would take maybe a week or so? Anyways, the storyline is pretty great. There’s suspense, a feeling of adventure...There’s also a little mystery and purposeful confusion in there, such as,
(SPOILER WARNING)
Why are Rayna and Anders different elementals/types/species/ whatever?
Who are the their parents?
Why can Anders summon this “ice-fire?”
Holy crap, the Scorch Dragons are sort of good guys?
(Spoiler Warning End)

There’s friendship, adventure, suspense, good characters, problems, solutions, and little bits and pieces coming together to form something big. I would recommend this book for people ages 9 and up. Honestly, anyone, from any age, could enjoy this, that’s just my opinion. Happy reading!
